Joby Aviation has officially initiated a week-long flight campaign across the Dallas-Fort Worth region, marking the kickoff of Texas’s first White House-backed eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP) flights.

The operation sees Joby’s electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft flying real-world routes across North Texas, including direct operations into Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and major urban hubs. Framed against the regional skyline, the demonstrations demonstrate the aircraft’s ability to integrate into busy airspace and build upon trials conducted earlier this year in New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area.

The campaign is being conducted under the winning Project Nexus proposal from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), which forms part of the U.S. Department of Transportation eIPP initiative announced in March 2026. The program unites federal, state, and local government bodies with private industry partners to accelerate the safe integration of electric air taxis into nationwide airspace.

Throughout the campaign, flight missions will connect Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport (AFW), key urban locations, and DFW Airport. These flights are structured to generate real-world operational data required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to formulate safety regulations for commercial service at scale.

The flight schedule spanning September 10 through September 14 features several key operational milestones:

  • AFW Airport – Campaign kickoff and joint flight demonstration from Joby and other aircraft manufacturers in partnership with TxDOT.
  • DFW Airport – Corporate Aviation Fixed-Base Operator (FBO): Joby’s aircraft will enter DFW’s controlled airspace, landing directly at DFW Corporate Aviation.
  • Arlington, TX – Round-trip flight from AFW demonstrating low-noise operations over major infrastructure, including the Fort Worth Stockyards.
  • Toyota Motor North America HQ (Plano) – Flight along the planned operational route connecting AFW to Toyota’s corporate campus.

This week’s initiative builds on airspace research conducted alongside the FAA and NASA, who began studying electric air taxi integration in North Texas in 2018. A 2023 high-fidelity simulation by Joby and NASA at the agency’s Ames Research Center Future Flight Central facility in Silicon Valley evaluated the feasibility of handling up to 50 electric air taxi operations per hour within the DFW terminal area.

To support the current flight series and accommodate long-term regional growth, Joby recently leased a 45,000-square-foot facility at Perot Field inside the AllianceTexas Mobility Innovation Zone.

Independent transportation research indicates the typical Dallas-Fort Worth driver loses roughly 44 hours per year to traffic congestion. Joby’s long-term vision aims to offer commercial air taxi services that convert long highway commutes into emission-free flights. Texas presents a strategic landscape for advanced air mobility due to its expanding infrastructure, fast-growing population, and the joint framework provided by the eIPP. Both AFW and DFW currently manage high volumes of daily air traffic by synchronizing public agencies and private operators, a system this week’s tests intend to replicate for electric air taxis.

The FAA is leveraging data from test flights in Texas and across the country to ensure these new aircraft integrate safely into the airspace.”

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy said, “Under President Trump, we are unlocking the future of flight and empowering innovators to build and test these exciting aircraft right here in the U.S. Today marks another critical step in our work to reshape how people and products move for the better.”

The North Texas campaign serves as a component of Joby’s 2026 Electric Skies Tour, a national showcase celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. Also featured on the tour is J208, a Cessna 208B Caravan retrofitted with Joby’s autonomous flight technology, which is currently completing coast-to-coast flight demonstrations that began in Concord, California on September 8. Developed under the Joby Autonomy program, the system is designed for application across commercial and defense sectors. J208 is scheduled to make an operational stop at AFW on September 10.

Joby is currently advancing through the fifth and final stage of FAA type certification, supported by ongoing testing of its conforming aircraft for Type Inspection Authorization (TIA). The Texas flights aim to highlight the operational maturity, acoustic performance, and airspace integration necessary for large-scale commercial deployment.
