Archer Aviation announced plans to perform public flight demonstrations of its all-electric Midnight aircraft at the 2026 California International Air Show in Salinas on Sept. 26–27.
The demonstration marks the second consecutive year that Midnight is scheduled to fly both days of the event, sharing the flight line with military and aerobatic performers including the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, Goulian Aerosports, and historic aircraft such as the MiG-17, T-33, and A-37 Dragonfly. Serving as the company’s primary flight test facility since 2021, the Salinas location acts as a hometown appearance within the broader ‘No Roads’ tour. Hundreds of engineering, operations, and flight test personnel are slated to attend the event alongside community members prior to the aircraft’s deployment to larger Northern California metropolitan areas.
The air show showcase follows an expansion of the company’s city-to-city flight test initiative. Designed to replace ground commutes of an hour or more with 10- to 20-minute aerial trips, the tour serves to demonstrate low noise profiles, zero operating emissions, and bypass capabilities over highway congestion.
On September 4th, Midnight completed its initial tour leg via a piloted roundtrip flight between Salinas Municipal Airport and Hollister Municipal Airport. The 40-mile journey achieved cruise speeds of 125 mph at an altitude of 3,550 feet, recording single-leg flight times of approximately 12 minutes compared to typical driving durations exceeding 40 minutes.
Following the public air show flights, the tour is scheduled to traverse Northern California destinations including San Martin, San Jose, Oakland, and San Francisco, before proceeding to Southern California, Texas, and Florida. Archer’s broader commercial goal centers on substituting 60- to 90-minute urban driving commutes with quiet, rapid electric transit through rapid back-to-back flight capabilities.
