Hitachi Energy and Eve Air Mobility have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance the electrical infrastructure required to support scalable urban air mobility operations.

As urban air mobility moves closer to commercialization, connecting vertiports reliably to power grids and preparing them for high-demand, high-frequency operations remains a primary technical challenge. Vertiport developers must secure sufficient power capacity, manage fast-charging cycles, and seamlessly integrate new electricity demand into existing energy systems.

To address these challenges, the agreement pairs Eve’s electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and broader urban air mobility portfolio—which includes aftermarket services—with Hitachi Energy’s specialized capabilities in grid integration, power electronics, and charging infrastructure.

The companies will assess key vertiport operational requirements, focusing on power availability and high-power charging for eVTOL aircraft. To optimize energy usage and maintain stable performance during high-demand applications, Hitachi Energy will leverage its Grid-eMotion® charging infrastructure, a system already deployed globally and tailored to eVTOL requirements.

The collaboration with Hitachi Energy supports our ongoing efforts to help enable the infrastructure needed for safe, efficient, scalable and economically sustainable eVTOL operations worldwide,” said Johann Bordais, Chief Executive Officer of Eve Air Mobility.

Beyond charging infrastructure, the collaboration will explore repurposing aircraft batteries for energy storage after their aviation lifecycle, enhancing overall ecosystem sustainability. The agreement also outlines a framework for joint business modeling and coordinated customer engagement to support global infrastructure expansion.

Eve Air Mobility, backed by Embraer’s 56-year aerospace legacy and listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: EVEX and EVEXW) and Brazil’s B3 (B3: EVEB31), is targeting aircraft certification and entry into commercial service in 2028. The manufacturer has already secured letters of intent for about 2,700 eVTOL aircraft from customers worldwide.
