Skyfly will present its Axe Vertically Capable Aircraft at EAA AirVenture 2026 as the FAA’s Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) regulations are set to come into effect.
The new MOSAIC framework replaces many prescriptive design limitations with performance-based requirements, creating a pathway for aircraft innovations. According to Skyfly, the Axe incorporates features enabled within the framework, including redundant electric propulsion across motors, propellers and batteries; the ability to conduct either a conventional runway roll or vertical take-off; and simplified pilot operation with flight envelope protection.
The two-seat Axe has been developed with a safety-first design approach for personal travel, recreation and flight training. It combines vertical take-off and landing capability with efficient wing-borne cruise flight, enabling operation from a wide variety of locations while retaining the familiarity, efficiency and stability of fixed-wing flight. This also allows the aircraft to glide safely with power set to idle.
The aircraft uses an inherently stall-resistant dual-wing configuration designed to support both safety and efficiency. Its forward wing is intended to reach maximum lift capability before the main wing, encouraging the aircraft to lower its nose before a full stall can develop. Unlike traditional legacy tail-downforce aircraft designs, both wings contribute positive lift, improving range and payload capability.
Michael Thompson, CEO of Skyfly, commented, “The timing could not be better. The Axe was conceived around a simple idea: that personal vertical flight can be safe and accessible when simplicity, efficiency and redundancy are built into the design. MOSAIC creates a framework that recognizes those principles.”
Skyfly will exhibit the Axe at EAA AirVenture 2026 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, from July 20 to 26. The event is described as the world’s largest aviation gathering and is expected to attract more than 700,000 attendees, including aviation enthusiasts, pilots, aircraft owners, industry leaders and media representatives.
Onsite interviews with members of Skyfly’s executive team can be scheduled by contacting the team. Skyfly will be located at booth numbers V23 and VL-3.
