Uber has introduced “Uber Air powered by Joby,” adding an in-app booking option that will enable riders to reserve flights on Joby Aviation’s all-electric air taxi directly through the Uber platform.

Joby expects to begin carrying its first passengers later this year in Dubai, marking an important milestone in the companies’ collaboration to expand multi-modal transportation options in urban markets.

Integrated within the existing Uber interface, the feature is designed to connect ground and air segments within a single booking flow. After entering a destination, the app identifies whether Uber Air powered by Joby is available for that trip. If eligible, a single tap coordinates the full itinerary, including Uber Black transfers to and from the landing location.

Joby’s aircraft is a piloted, all-electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) platform configured for up to four passengers. It utilizes six tilting propellers to achieve vertical lift before transitioning into forward flight, reaching speeds of up to 200 mph with a range of up to 100 miles per charge. The aircraft has been engineered with multiple layers of system redundancy to enhance safety and is designed for urban integration, including an acoustic profile intended to blend into existing city ambient noise.

In parallel with international deployment plans, Joby continues to advance through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification process required for U.S. commercial passenger operations. The company has completed more than 50,000 miles of flight testing across its fleet and has entered the final stage of certification.

The partnership between Uber and Joby dates back to 2019 and expanded in 2021 with Joby’s acquisition of Uber Elevate, which contributed tools for market analysis, demand simulation, and multi-modal operations planning. Following Joby’s acquisition of Blade’s passenger business, the companies also announced plans to integrate Blade’s commercial helicopter services into the Uber app beginning in 2026.

Sachin Kansal, Chief Product Officer at Uber, commented, “We’ve long believed in the power of advanced air mobility to transform how people move through cities. With Uber Air, riders will be able to book Joby’s electric air taxi through a simple and familiar, one-tap experience on Uber, seamlessly connecting every leg of their journey – making ground-to-sky travel even more effortless.”

Eric Allison, Chief Product Officer at Joby, added, “We set out to build a new layer of urban transportation. Our focus has always been on creating a flight experience that operates quietly and integrates naturally into the rhythm of city life. By partnering with Uber, we’re making this new mode of transportation familiar and accessible, connecting the ground and the sky through a system designed to save people time and fit seamlessly into how they already move.

The collaboration is intended to support the broader rollout of electric air taxi services in global markets, including Dubai, New York, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, and Japan.
