Archer Aviation has completed the first test flight of its Midnight eVTOL aircraft at Al Bateen Executive Airport in Abu Dhabi.

The achievement marks a significant milestone in Archer’s strategy to launch commercial operations in the United Arab Emirates and expand its presence across the Middle East.

The demonstration, supported by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, was conducted in the presence of senior representatives from the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, the Integrated Transport Centre, Abu Dhabi Aviation, and Abu Dhabi Airports. The test focused on validating the Midnight aircraft’s vertical flight performance under region-specific environmental conditions, including high temperatures, humidity, and airborne dust.

With this flight complete, Archer will broaden its flight testing program in the UAE, collecting further performance data to support the aircraft’s certification and commercial rollout. These activities are part of the company’s Launch Edition program with Abu Dhabi Aviation, which aims to introduce electric air taxi services in the emirate. The program also supports broader commercialization goals in key international markets.

H.E. Badr Al-Olama, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, said, “This flight marks a significant step towards realising Abu Dhabi’s ambition to lead the world in advanced urban air mobility. Through the Smart and Autonomous Vehicles Industry (SAVI) Cluster, we are enabling companies like Archer to test, certify and scale next-generation air mobility solutions, reinforcing our position as a global launchpad for innovation and a hub for transformative technologies.”

Adam Goldstein, CEO and Founder of Archer Aviation, added, “Our initial test flight operations in the UAE represent a critical milestone as we prepare for our commercial deployment in Abu Dhabi. Testing our aircraft in actual operating conditions in the middle of summer provides us with the data we need to progress our commercial and certification efforts both in the UAE and in the U.S.”

Archer’s recent progress includes regulatory design approval for the UAE’s first vertiport at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal and the development of strategic partnerships with major regional aviation stakeholders. These efforts underscore the UAE’s growing leadership in advanced air mobility and its commitment to adopting sustainable transport technologies.

Abu Dhabi serves as the inaugural market for Archer’s Launch Edition initiative, positioning the city as a global pioneer in the deployment of urban air mobility. The program highlights Abu Dhabi’s role in shaping the future of aviation and reinforces its investment in next-generation mobility solutions.
