Diamond Aircraft Industries, a global leader in general aviation manufacturing, has acquired Volocopter.

In December 2024, the German eVTOL manufacturer’s future was in doubt after the company filed for insolvency while it sought new investors.

However, this acquisition now brings Volocopter under the umbrella of Diamond Aircraft, a subsidiary of Wanfeng Aircraft Division, part of Wanfeng Auto Holding Group Co., Ltd.

Volocopter, which remains headquartered in Bruchsal, Germany, will benefit from Diamond’s extensive manufacturing expertise, helping to streamline operations, reduce costs, and accelerate certification efforts.

Volocopter’s flagship eVTOL, the VoloCity, along with future variants, will continue to advance under Diamond’s leadership. This acquisition secures the company’s long-term development, retaining its highly skilled workforce while reinforcing its position as a key player in sustainable urban air transportation.

With certification targets set for 2025, the integration with Diamond Aircraft provides the necessary support to achieve commercial readiness and drive the future of electric aviation.

Bin Chen, Chairman of Diamond Aircraft Group, said, “The future of aviation is shaped by visionaries. Diamond’s broad portfolio is further strengthened by Volocopter, the VoloCity, and future models. Together, we are creating the foundation to further develop sustainable air mobility and strengthen Europe as an innovation hub in aviation.”

Tobias Wahl, insolvency administrator and partner at Anchor Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH, added, “Volocopter’s expertise and highly motivated team have consistently set benchmarks in the eVTOL industry. With Diamond Aircraft, we have found a strong strategic partner who will bild on this foundation. My special thanks go to the employees for their spirit and commitment. I am grateful that the team can carry on with their impactful work in the European economy.”
